In Life Science you are learning about human genetic disorders and mutations.  You have read about cystic fibrosis, sickle-cell disease, hemophilia, Huntington's disease, and Down syndrome.  Your science research assignment will include searching for information about diseases related to human genetic disorders.  As we begin to research about diseases related to human genetic disorders, let's look for information on Wikipedia.com and Worldbook Online.  What are some keywords you could use to search for more information?  As you search, make a list of  keywords and questions you would like to answer.  Once you have located some keywords and identified some questions of your own, you will use this information to guide you in narrowing down a topic that you would like to use for your research project.  We will discuss your topics and the other parts of this research assignment later.  This is just a beginning to help you get started thinking about your topic and the research process.  After you have identified some keywords and questions, go to your blog and write what you found.  Include your keywords, questions, and any personal feelings that you may have.  Remember that your classmates, your science teachers, and I will read your blog posts!  Then, read the blog posts of your classmates and reply if you have some helpful ideas. A rubric will be used to assess your blog posts and replies.

Students, now that you have created your blogs, we need to learn some rules for writing on these blogs.  Have you ever heard of netiquette?  Today we are going to learn some rules for writing on our blogs or any online writing space, including social media.

First, go to my PortaPortal, my bookmarking page, and we'll read the first 3 articles under the section of Netiquette and Cyberbullying.
http://guest.portaportal.com/pwilliams

Then we'll come back to our blogs to write a journal post about the importance of using the Web responsibly with netiquette.
Take a look at the first post you made on your blog?  Do you see anything that you might want to change?

A rubric will be used for assessing your new blog post.

The next assignment will be to read and respond to a classmate's post about netiquette.
That assignment will be assessed by a special rubric for blog replies.
The assessment rubrics are also located on the portaportal listed above.
